Work at Height - Immersive Safety Training

VR + Desktop + Mobile + Web Case Study

Preparing workers for high-risk environments — without putting them at risk. AuraInteract developed an interactive 3D Work at Height Safety Training solution designed for multi-platform access across VR, Desktop, Mobile and Web, guiding trainees through PPE preparation, scaffold inspection, permit verification, fall-protection equipment checks, safe movement, hazard identification, practical testing and a controlled simulated free-fall experience.

Current Experience

Interactive 3D work-at-height environment with guided training, practical tasks, MCQ assessment and a controlled simulated fall.

Aura Interact Outcome

Safer, repeatable and assessable training that can be accessed across VR, desktop, mobile and web platforms.

The Challenge

Work at height involves safety-critical procedures where even a small mistake can have serious consequences. Traditional classroom training can explain rules, but it cannot fully recreate the physical environment, hazards and decision-making involved in working at height. The objective was to create a safe, engaging and repeatable environment where workers could learn by doing — without being exposed to an actual fall or scaffold-related hazard.

The Solution

AuraInteract developed an interactive 3D Work at Height Safety Training solution designed for multi-platform access across VR, Desktop, Mobile and Web. The trainee progresses through PPE preparation, scaffold inspection, permit verification, fall-protection equipment checks, safe movement and hazard identification. The experience then transitions from guided learning to independent testing.

Core Features

PPE Selection & Safety Preparation

Trainees learn to identify appropriate PPE and understand the importance of being properly equipped before beginning work at height.

Scaffold Inspection

Covers ground condition and stability, scaffold standards, supports, ledgers, transoms, braces and ties, couplers, planks and decking, guardrails and toe boards, safe access, safety nets, platform loading, debris, scaffold design/drawings and Safe Working Load (SWL) signage.

Scaffold Authorization & Permit Verification

Before accessing the scaffold, trainees verify inspection tags, authorized-to-use status, inspector information, load rating and work-at-height permits.

Harness & Lanyard Inspection

Trainees perform pre-use checks of the full-body harness, energy-absorbing lanyard, connections and snap hooks, followed by correct wearing and adjustment.

Lifeline & Fall Protection

Practice with horizontal and vertical lifelines, self-retracting lifelines, fall arrestors, anchor points, 100% tie-off and safe connection/disconnection procedures.

Training Mode

Acts as a virtual instructor, guiding trainees through each step of the procedure and allowing them to repeat difficult actions until they understand the correct workflow.

Voice-Over Guidance

Explains safety procedures while the trainee performs the corresponding activity, creating a natural instructor-led experience.

Visual Guidance

Highlighted objects, directional indicators, on-screen instructions, animations, safety warnings, equipment labels, step prompts and hazard indicators reinforce critical safety information.

Assessment Mode

Reduces instructional assistance and evaluates whether trainees can independently perform required safety procedures through practical tasks and MCQ assessment.

Controlled Simulated Free-Fall Experience

Creates a powerful safety-learning moment inside a controlled virtual environment, showing the consequences of ignoring fall-protection procedures.

Business Outcomes

Safer Training Environment

Workers can practice high-risk procedures without exposure to an actual fall or scaffold-related hazard.

Better Practical Understanding

Trainees actively perform safety procedures instead of only watching demonstrations.

Consistent Training

Every trainee receives the same structured training experience.

Repeatable Practice

Difficult procedures can be practiced repeatedly until the correct workflow becomes familiar.

Improved Hazard Awareness

Immersion makes unsafe conditions and fall hazards more visible and memorable.

Knowledge + Skill Assessment

Practical tasks and MCQs provide a broader view of trainee understanding.

Scalable Multi-Platform Delivery

The training can reach users through VR, Desktop, Mobile and Web, supporting different devices, locations and training environments.

Stronger Safety Culture

Experiencing the consequences of unsafe decisions can reinforce safety-first behavior.

Training Modules

Training Mode

Training Mode acts as a virtual instructor. The system guides trainees through each step of the procedure, allowing them to repeat difficult actions until they understand the correct workflow.

Assessment Mode — From Learning to Demonstrating Competency

Once trainees understand the procedures, Testing Mode reduces instructional assistance and evaluates whether they can independently perform required safety procedures. Practical assessment tasks can include inspecting equipment, selecting appropriate safety equipment, connecting hooks, checking lifelines, maintaining 100% tie-off, using ladders safely and identifying hazards. MCQ Assessment evaluates theoretical understanding across PPE requirements, scaffold inspection, fall-protection systems, lifeline procedures, ladder safety, 100% tie-off and hazard identification.

Experience the Consequence

The training culminates in a controlled simulated free-fall experience. Rather than simply telling workers what can happen when fall-protection procedures are ignored, the immersive scenario creates a powerful safety-learning moment inside a controlled virtual environment.
